Frequently asked questions regarding the PLH Online exams
Q. How do I book my APLH (former NCPLH) or SCPLH exam?
If you have never used a Pearson VUE test centre before, when you book your exam online you will be asked to Create a New Web Account by entering a user name and password. Bookings can be made on the web 24/7.
Please note bookings cannot be made at the test centre
Q. Where do I sit the APLH (former NCPLH) or SCPLH exam?
The licensing exam is sat online in a Pearson VUE Test Centre. Pearson VUE are the world's leading computer-based testing company and have the largest network of owned test centres in the UK.
Pearson VUE provide learners with a secure testing environment and are conveniently located throughout the UK. Pearson VUE are best known to the public as the hosts of the DVLA Driving Theory Test.
Q. Where is my nearest test centre?
80% of the population (either at home or work) are no more than 20 miles away from their nearest test centre.
Q. What if I need to call Pearson VUE?
If you would like to call Pearson Vue to arrange, cancel, or change an exam, then you can do so by calling 0161 855 7509. You should have your PLH ID ready before you speak with Pearson Vue, as they will need this to look up your details. Your PLH ID is your access code which you use to gain access to your training module - it is a 12 digit code, and can be found in your training instructions.
Q. What will I need to sit the APLH (former NCPLH) or SCPLH exam?
You will be required to present a current valid passport or a current valid UK photo card driving licence (full or provisional) at reception. If you present a biometric passport which does not contain your signature, you will be required to present an additional form of ID, such as a debit/credit card which includes a signature.
Please check that your first name and last name (listed at the top of this communication) match EXACTLY with the identification documents that you intend to present on the day of your test.
Q. What if I don't have a current valid passport or a current valid UK driving licence photocard?
If you don't have either of the above forms of ID then please contact our helpdesk on 0844 445 7119 or firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm which form of ID you are able to present (E.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, utility bill, credit card) and we will confirm which ID is acceptable to Pearson VUE and inform them of what you are going to present. Please note this must be done at least 24hours before your exam, and cannot be accommodated either at the test centre or on the day of your exam.
Q. How quickly can I sit the APLH (former NCPLH) or SCPLH exam?
You can sit your licensing exam as soon as you are ready, at a time that is convenient to yourself.
You can check available exam times in advance or, to ensure you get a test time that suits, you can book your exam before you commence the training.
Q. What time are the Pearson VUE test centres open for exams?
It depends on the test centre, not all centres are open all the time as it depends on demand which is monitored daily to make sure candidates have flexibility. You can see when your test centre is open when you check availability.
Q. What is the pass mark for the APLH (former NCPLH) and SCPLH exam?
The passmark is 70% - to pass the exam you must get 28 answers correct out of 40 questions.
Q. What if I fail the exam?
For each purchase you get 2 attempts at sitting the exam.
If you fail your exam the first time, you can resit your exam free of charge. You will need to schedule a new time and date for the second exam
If you fail your exam a second time you will need to reschedule a new time and date via PLH Online at email@example.com or 0844 445 7119. There will be a charge of £30 + vat for all additional exams out with the first two attempts.
Q. What if I need to reschedule or cancel my exam?
You may reschedule your exam, without charge, no more than 24 hours before your scheduled time and date.
If you cancel within 24 hours of your exam or you fail to turn up for your exam you will need to schedule a new time and date and there will be a charge of £30 + vat to reschedule.
Q. What are the exam conditions?
You must arrive at the test centre at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete the necessary check-in procedures.
You may leave the test room for water or a comfort break, but no additional time will be allowed in your test. If you wish to leave the room, you must ask the invigilator. Please note that you will not be permitted to eat whilst in the test centre.
You will not be allowed to take any personal items with you into the testing room. This includes all bags, books or other materials not authorised for this exam. (E.g. notes, mobile phones, pagers, watches and wallets)If you fail to comply with the stated exam conditions then your exam may become null and void.
Q. What if I need extra time to sit the exam?
If you require extra time to sit your exam due to a medical condition, then this can be pre-arranged by calling Pearson VUE on 0161 855 7509 between 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. In order to qualify for extra time you may be required to produce medical documentation. If you are unsure if you qualify for extra time for the exam, this helpdesk will be happy to advise. Please note bookings for extra time cannot be made at the test centre.
Q. When will I receive my Personal Licence Holder certificate?
On successful completion of the SCPLH and NCPLH exam, the certificates are issued by S.Q.A and sent to you directly by them. This takes up to 3 weeks (15 working days).
Please note that PLH Online cannot accept responsibility for any certificates delivered outwith these timeframes.
Q. What about the Staff Licensing Training exam?
This exam is part of the Staff Licensing Training module and is done online when you have finished the 2 hours Staff Licensing training. You do not sit the Staff Licensing exam in a test centre.
Q. What happens if I change my address before I receive my certificate?
If you have changed your address since being nominated as a learner then please contact us to let them know as soon as possible and we will update your details.
If you have sat your exam and then your address changes please call us immediately and we will update your details. If however SQA have already sent out your certificate to your old address there will be a charge of £38 to cover the cost of SQA sending another certificate to your new address.
